Upside-Down Apple Tart

Don’t you hate it when that happens?

So, fun fact: this was actually the result of a complete failure of a video! That tart slice you see in the thumbnail is the final result of my attempts at following the Tarte Tatin recipe fromĀ Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and it was a disaster. I thought it was a little weird that you didn’t cook the apples at all first (to get some of the moisture out), and it turns out that I was right, because when I went to flip it out of the pan and onto a plate, it poured hot apple liquid all over the counters. We decided to scrap the episode, but held onto the footage for my eventual attempt #2.

Then, we moved states on very short notice, realized we still had the shirt-change gag from the footage here, and suddenly this video was born!

And yes, we will be giving the tarte tatin another go in the not-too-distant-future, so stay tuned for that!
